In preparing our students for life after Penn Hall School there are a range of activities that help develop an understanding and appreciation of the world of work. We are becoming increasingly successful at securing meaningful work related experiences for our 16-19 students with recent placements including:
- Students as classroom assistants at a local Primary School
- Office and Administration experience at Walsall Housing group.
- Sales experience at Old Tree Nursery.
- Local Estate Agents – Berriman Eaton
- Planning and design at Barratts Homes
Links with Whizz Kidz will hopefully add to this list with opportunities to work in marque companies and participation in Work Skills Days where interview technique and writing CVs will be covered. Developing enterprise skills is a focus at this age group and skills are developed in a range of methods including stalls at our twice yearly fairs, regular cake sales, Black Country Enterprise productions and various charity fund raising.
The Vocational Lifeskills Programme below maps some of the activities available.
New for 2017-18
We have introduced a initiative this year with a new programme of study for our Key Stage 3-5 students this year called ENRICHMENT. This has involved blending all the pupils across from 11-19 in mixed groups to offer social learning experiences with peers that they do not usually spend time with. The programme covers:
- Health & Well Being
- Our Music (with external practitioners working towards a public performance)
- Life skills and trips
- Forest Schools
- Relationships and Sex Education
- 3D Sculpture
It also allowed us some freedom to come together as a Seniors department to rehearse and prepare for our School Production which this year was ‘ The Mystery at Magpie Manor’.
