INTRODUCTION – The main emphasis of M.F.L. is on the enjoyment of other languages, it gives the students an insight into the cultures and social backgrounds of other countries. All pupils are encouraged to take an active part and to become more confident in their linguistic ability. 

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES –To increase linguistic and social skills. With practice enable the students to communicate using simple sentences. To show the relevance and purpose in learning another language by placing the subject material into concrete situations. To come into contact with native speakers. 

SUBJECT CONTENT – Ways of getting to France. History and geography of the country. Food/drink-café, menus. Pets, animals, family, numbers, colours, body, dates, school, transport, home, clothes, weather, time, sports, celebrations. 

Reading texts, listening to language- songs and stories in French. Games. 

KEY STAGE 1 Introduce the children to some words and phrases in different languages- French, German, Spanish, and Punjabi. Use computer programme of simple activities. Games, songs and action songs in these languages. Language nut and linguafun websites introduce and use over the school. 

KEY STAGE 2 – Introduce Coventry Language materials- words in other languages. Matching games and vocabulary. Numbers, colours, dates and birthdays- activities and worksheets. Animals, seaside, food. Simple commands-ouvre/ferme la porte. Simple songs in other languages. 

KEY STAGE 3 –Repetition of KS2 topics in greater depth. Food and drink- designing French menus. Role play in a café- sampling the authentic French food. Say simple sentences about themselves and their families. Songs teaching parts of the body. Find out about places in France- Paris especially. Games involving shopping. “Allons-y” French magazine. Language assistant. 

SIXTH FORM– Find information about the country and the people, using the internet and reading simple extracts from a French newspaper. Sing more complicated songs and learn the French version of monopoly. Read students’ French newspaper. Write raps and poems in the language.

  • ARTS Award for one group. 
  • WOW certificates for excellent work. 
  • Asset Languages- certificates given for good work in one or more sections- speaking, listening, writing, reading 
  • Coventry materials (Juniors) booklets to fill in.
