Service Provision
Moving and Handling
In addition to overseeing Moving and Handling issues within Penn Hall, the
Outreach Co-ordinator is also responsible for organising the delivery of
training courses to staff in mainstream schools.
There are six Centaur Key Trainers at Penn Hall (all of whom have delivered INSET training to members of our own Penn Hall staff). At least one Moving and Handling course is run once a year for mainstream staff who support pupils with disabilities. A second course is offered if there is sufficient demand.
Basic course content is set out below:

Additionally, Mary Hall, a member of the Outreach Service Team, is a Key Trainer and able to use her experience to advise and guide school staff on any specific Moving and Handling issues or Risk Assessment.
Outreach Service Sports Club
A weekly disability sports club targets pupils in mainstream schools, particularly
those for whom PE as a subject is proving difficult.
Pupils are often referred by physiotherapists or occupational therapists who note the paucity of PE provision in schools.
A small number of Penn Hall pupils are invited to boost numbers and provide role models in terms of what they have achieved.
The club has grown steadily, and new members are continually being encouraged to join us but transport problems are often a barrier to participation.
Increasingly, those who attend are being invited to take part in regional (and national) disability sports events under the ‘wing’ of the Penn Hall Team. There have been several notable successes recently, with pupils taking part in:
DSE
Regional Athletics - Birmingham,
DSE
National Athletics – Blackpool,
Kielder
Challenge – Cannock/Northumberland,
Rotary
Games – Coventry.
