International Comenius Project
The school has been involved in International Partnership over a number of years. Groups have visited “Le Fosso”, a specialist centre for disabled students in Brittany, France. They have taken part in cultural events, activities and visited places of historical interest. Wolverhampton Local Authority has had strong links with “Kobanya” a region of Hungary. Pupils from Kobanya have visited the school to demonstrate their traditional dancing. Head Teachers from Hungary have been shown around the school as part of the twinning activities.
In 2008 the school was accepted into an International Comenius school project titled, “Healthy Mind, Healthy Body, Healthy Environment”. We have nine partner schools from nine different countries, theses are, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Portugal, Bulgaria, Spain, Italy, Turkey and Lithuania. The Pupils learn about different countries by e-mailing partner schools and sending DVD’s of projects and drama productions.
The school has been able to secure funding for some staff and pupils to visit these countries to take part in various events and activities. Pupils and staff have the opportunity to work with their European partners and study the culture and traditions of these countries.
So far, three staff members have visited Bulgaria and four staff members and three pupils have been to Barcelona in Spain. Three members of staff and two pupils have visited Budapest in Hungary and a visit to Palermo in Sicily is planned in October 2009 for three staff and two pupils. As recognition of this achievement, Penn Hall School has been presented with The International School Award (Intermediate Level)
