The Outdoor Classroom
The Woodland Trail
At Penn Hall we place great value on the extensive and varied outdoor spaces that surround the school. We are committed to learning about how we can use these spaces to challenge, provoke imagination and extend the experiences of our young people.
The
Project aims to create a sensory environment trail through an outdoor area
of the school grounds. Through the trail, a series of zones will be created
which will provide opportunities for independent learning for the pupils
of the school and other users from schools or community. The trail and zones
will be designed by the pupils in conjunction with local artists.
There have been recent developments to the playground and woodland area in the form of an adventurous challenge area and creativity trail. Work continues in the woodland on the new and very exciting zip wire feature, along with a wheel chair abseil. During the next few weeks we are aiming to complete the problem solving areas and the Forest School base camp.
In 2006 we become an Innovation Centre for Black Country Creative Partnerships and this is helping to fund many creative projects outside. We are working on new approaches to teaching outside and this is challenging both staff and pupils.
We welcome visitors from other schools and community groups and are happy to share information and create links.
