Nursing Team
The School Nursing team support and facilitate students with health needs
within the school environment.
The team is a member of the Community Children’s Nursing Service funded by Wolverhampton City Primary Care Trust. The team works closely with school staff, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists and occupational therapists.
The school nursing team works in the following areas:
giving
prescribed medication to students in school,
giving
specialist feeds (gastrostomy and nasogastric) to students,
supporting
school staff in a health education and advisory capacity,
working
with the PHSE staff,
supporting
students and staff in the event of accidents and illness in
school,
supporting
school staff and students on trips and out of school residential trips,
working
closely and sharing information with the palliative care nurse who is involved
with students in the school,
supporting
the residential staff to meet the health needs of children
in residence,
organising
and running medical, orthopaedic, audiology and opthalmology clinics
in school.
We are a link between parents, students and other multidisciplinary professionals. A link is also maintained with the Community Children’s Nursing Service in order to maintain contact with students and meet their health needs outside school hours and during the school holidays.
