Speech and Language Therapy

 

Pupil using communication aidThe Speech and Language Therapists (SALT) support and facilitate children who need help in the following areas:

 

Bullet Point graphic understanding,
Bullet Point graphic being understood by others,
Bullet Point graphic forming sentences,
Bullet Point graphic communicating in different ways e.g. using signs or symbols,
Bullet Point graphic learning to use a communication aid effectively,
Bullet Point graphic developing social skills,
Bullet Point graphic eating and drinking.

 

The work of the SALT team may also include:


Bullet Point graphic giving advice to staff and parents,Access to ICT
Bullet Point graphic providing written reports,
Bullet Point graphic offering advice on the most appropriate communication for children,
Bullet Point graphic working with teachers to facilitate opportunities for communication,
Bullet Point graphic liaising with professionals at meetings and case conferences,
Bullet Point graphic providing communication aims and guidelines,

Bullet Point graphic organising group or individual activities to be supported at home and school.

 

Individual contact is not always appropriate as a child is often best supported on a regular basis by familiar adults
