Occupational Therapy

 

Correct seating positionOccupational Therapy (OT) aims to develop a child’s or young person’s ability to carry out daily living activities, thereby promoting independence and quality of life.

 

The Occupational Therapist is a member of a community based team (Wolverhampton City NHS Primary Care Trust) which includes Physiotherapists and Speech and Language Therapists who all work alongside school staff. The overall goal of the OT is to help maximise motor and perceptual abilities and to develop as much independence as possible in activities of daily living. Special equipment may be recommended where appropriate.


The OT works in the following areas:

 

appropriate position and equipment for using the computerBullet Point graphic seating and positioning,

Bullet Point graphic self help skills such as feeding and

drinking, toileting, dressing and life skills,

Bullet Point graphic play and perceptual skills,

Bullet Point graphic fine motor skills,

Bullet Point graphic sensory processing problems,

Bullet Point graphic access to communication and technology.

 

 

 

Good liaison is maintained with the Paediatric Occupational Therapist at the Community Equipment Service in Wolverhampton regarding equipment in the home and also with OTs working in Social Services in Dudley, Walsall, Sandwell and Staffordshire.
